every project has a folder like this. mine is called SEQFILES and it's where sequence projects go when i stop believing in them. dozens of em at this point. some are ten minutes of a tuesday night, some are the third attempt at something that never turned into anything, a few are just a kick drum and a bad idea. i don't delete them, i just stop opening them.
piano-swell was in there. i made it at some point in the last 3 months, i have literally no idea when, and then i moved on to whatever was next and it sat in the folder.
the reason it came back up is that i've been building something that plays these folders on its own - i'll write about that properly another time, it's a longer story. the short version is that i'm building a tool to put together sets of SEQ files and i wanted to test it so what folder did I use? thats right, the folder of misfit ideas.
so i'm sitting there letting it run and piano-swell comes on and it's... good? not good like finished, good like i didn't recognize it. there's an idea i keep circling in this whole project - things falling apart, and what's left when they do. i usually mean it about sound. but it turns out it applies to the folder too. the version of me that filed this away was possibly wrong and it's interesting that a random tool resurfaced it and now I think i need to probably put some more time into this .SEQ file.
realistically i'm posting this as an artifact for myself which might be fun to look back on in a few months after the next EP is released and maybe features this melody or some variation of it.
